(Reuters) – Aston Villa missed an opportunity to move to the top of the Premier League after drawing 1-1 with Sheffield United. Midfielder John McGinn believes the club should keep things in perspective despite the disappointment of failing to secure the top spot. A late goal by Nicolo Zaniolo secured a draw for Villa, ending their 15-match winning run at home in the league.
Villa is currently in second place in the standings, tied with leaders Arsenal, who are set to face third-placed Liverpool. McGinn commented on the draw, acknowledging that the team was not at their best and that their opponents executed their game plan better. He expressed disappointment in not being able to secure the top spot outright.
McGinn also emphasized the importance of recognizing the team’s impressive run at home, highlighting that it was inevitable for it to come to an end at some point. He noted that the feeling of a defeat demonstrated a shift in mentality within the team.
Looking ahead, Villa’s next match will be against Manchester United in a league clash on Tuesday.
