(Reuters) – Former Spain midfielder Juan Mata has made a move to Vissel Kobe for free, as announced by the Japanese club on Sunday.
Mata, who was part of Spain’s victorious World Cup squad in South Africa in 2010, has joined the team led by Takayuki Yoshida after departing from Turkish side Galatasaray during the summer.
Vissel Kobe currently holds the second position in the J.League standings, trailing leaders Yokohama F Marinos by only one point. They are set to face Kyoto Sanga on Sunday, and a victory would propel them to the top of the table.
After leaving Galatasaray, Mata had been without a club until now. His previous clubs include Valencia, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
