LONDON (Reuters) – West Ham secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the early Premier League game on Saturday, with Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus finding the back of the net in the second half. The win briefly elevated West Ham into the top six.
In the 72nd minute, Bowen scored by bundling the ball home from close range after a well-executed one-two with Lucas Paqueta. Kudus extended West Ham’s lead six minutes later with a sharp finish, effectively sealing the game.
Following a 5-1 defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup earlier in the week, West Ham managed to bounce back and move up to sixth place with 30 points. On the other hand, Manchester United dropped to eighth place with 28 points.
The first half of the match lacked quality, with the best chance falling to Alejandro Garnacho in the 35th minute. However, the winger lost his balance and shot straight at Alphonse Areola.
Bowen scored his 11th league goal of the season, taking advantage of Paqueta’s well-placed ball and Onana’s save rebounding off the forward and into the net.
Paqueta then took advantage of Kobbie Mainoo’s mistake to set up Kudus, who fired the ball into the net past Onana, securing all three points for the hosts.
