England women’s head coach Sarina Wiegman has extended her contract until the 2027 Women’s World Cup after winning FIFA’s Best women’s coach prize for 2023. Wiegman, a former Netherlands player and head coach, expressed her appreciation for England and described it as her “home away from home”.

Wiegman took England to the Women’s World Cup final for the first time in August, just two years into her tenure as head coach. “Working for England, it is the biggest federation worldwide. England is at the highest level with the competition, with the players, with the way the FA approaches women’s football,” she added.

English FA’s CEO Mark Bullingham said, “We view Sarina as the number one coach in the world in the women’s game and I would say (the deal amount) is according (to that)” in response to Wiegman’s new contract.

Wiegman, who led England to their first ever Women’s European Championship title in 2022, expressed her belief in the team’s potential, saying “I feel with this team we can grow so much more, I just wanted to do another tournament with this team too… it is really nice to work in England and I see a lot of potential.”

Following her contract extension, Wiegman said that she remains committed to the team and sees a lot of potential for growth. She emphasized that her personal goal was to experience and learn about another culture and connect people, and that she feels at home working for England.
