WOLVERHAMPTON (Reuters) – Wolverhampton Wanderers caused an upset by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1, thanks to stoppage-time goals from Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina on Saturday. This victory prevented the visitors from reclaiming the top spot in the Premier League table.
Despite Tottenham Hotspur playing with an improvised back four, they managed to take the lead in the third minute when Pedro Porro set up 22-year-old Brennan Johnson for a tap-in. Spurs then defended their slender lead for the next 90 minutes.
Wolves’ Hwang Hee-Chan and Sasa Kalajdzic had shots that narrowly missed, but it was substitute Sarabia who finally secured an equaliser in the 91st minute. He expertly controlled a cross and volleyed home from an angle.
With a draw looking likely, Lemina seized the opportunity in the 97th minute by perfectly timing his run to receive a pass from Sarabia and successfully striking the ball into the bottom corner, securing all three points for the home team.
As a result of this game, Spurs are now in second place in the table, while Wolves have moved up to 12th.
