(Reuters) – According to manager Gary O’Neil, Wolverhampton Wanderers are facing the likelihood of playing the rest of the season without Pedro Neto due to an injury. The Portuguese winger, who is 24 years old, has been a key player for the West Midlands club, currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League with 41 points from 28 matches, as they push for a European spot.
In his 23 appearances across all competitions this season, Neto has contributed three goals and 11 assists to the team. O’Neil expressed his concerns about Neto’s injury, mentioning that it seems like the player will be out for the remainder of the season and might only return towards the very end of it.
The injury setback comes after Wolves suffered a shock 3-2 home loss to Championship side Coventry City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. The team is also grappling with injuries to forwards Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan.
Wolves’ upcoming matches include a visit to fourth-placed Aston Villa on March 30, followed by a trip to face lowly Burnley on April 2. O’Neil provided updates on Cunha and Hwang’s situations, stating that Cunha is expected to be back in contention for the game against Villa, while Hwang still has around six to seven weeks of recovery left.
“But we need to keep working to find solutions from what we have,” O’Neil emphasized, highlighting the importance of adapting to the team’s current challenges and making the most of available players.
