PETALING JAYA: Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie, the mixed doubles pair, achieved victory in the Swiss Open after defeating their Malaysian compatriots Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei. This win marked the end of their six-year long wait for a title.
The world No.14 pair of Soon Huat-Shevon displayed exceptional skills as they outplayed the world No.9 duo of Tang Jie-Ee Wei with a scoreline of 21-16, 21-13 in a final that turned out to be surprisingly one-sided. This victory was their first title since claiming the 2018 Singapore Open.
After finishing as runners-up in the 2022 and 2023 editions to Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Seidel and China’s Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin respectively, the independent pair finally got it right in their third consecutive final in the Swiss Open tournament.
On the other hand, Tang Jie-Ee Wei had to settle for their second runners-up finish of the year after also being defeated in the Thailand Masters final in January by the home favorites and 2021 world champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai.
