A court in the southeastern region of Murcia in Spain has initiated a criminal investigation into suspected reckless manslaughter following the deaths of 13 individuals in the most devastating nightclub fire the country has witnessed in decades.
On Sunday, a fire erupted in three adjacent nightclubs on the outskirts of Murcia, causing severe damage to two of them, namely Teatre and La Fonda Milagros. The cause behind the blaze is yet to be determined, as stated by officials.
The local authorities have revealed that both nightclubs were operating against the orders to shut down, which had been issued a year earlier due to their lack of a proper permit.
The judge is currently awaiting the completion of autopsies to identify the victims, as genetic samples have been submitted for analysis.
