JOHOR BARU: Plans for the construction of Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 (HSA 2) are underway, with a special committee set to discuss the project, according to Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. The Johor Mentri Besar revealed that he had met with Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to discuss the matter, as the piece of land in Skudai earmarked for HSA 2 belonged to the Defence Ministry. Onn Hafiz emphasized the significance of HSA 2 in alleviating dependency and congestion at the existing hospital, and expressed gratitude for Mohamad’s cooperation and support in utilizing the Defence Ministry’s land for the project. Following their meeting in Putrajaya, Onn Hafiz announced on Thursday (July 13) via a Facebook post that a special committee would be formed to delve deeper into the matter and refine the plans. He also expressed hopes for continued collaboration between the Federal and state governments, highlighting the potential positive impact on the lives of Johoreans and the state’s development.
Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa previously stated on June 18 that discussions were ongoing between the Health and Defence Ministries regarding the hospital project, with a final decision expected to be reached within two to three months. Onn Hafiz and state health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon had been actively advocating for the construction of HSA 2 to cater to the needs of the people and enhance healthcare services in the state. On June 1, Onn Hafiz had announced that HSA is the second busiest public hospital in the country, second only to Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
