Spotify has announced that it will be increasing the monthly subscription fees for all of its ad-free Premium plans in Malaysia. The price increase ranges between RM1 to RM1.70.
The new pricing for Spotify Premium will be RM15.90, up from RM14.90. Spotify Premium Duo will now cost RM21.50, a rise from RM19.80. Meanwhile, Spotify Family will increase to RM24.90 from RM23.80, and Spotify Premium Student will cost RM8.50, up from RM7.50.
However, it is important to note that Spotify Premium Mini, which offers one-off premium subscriptions on mobile devices, will not see an increase and will maintain its pricing of 75sen a day and RM2.90 a week.
New subscribers are required to pay the new subscription fee immediately, while existing subscribers will see the new pricing on their bill starting from September.
As for trial users, they will still be able to enjoy a one-month subscription at the original price before the new pricing takes effect.
Malaysia had previously avoided the wave of price increases for Spotify Premium subscriptions, although there was a relatively smaller price increase this time.
For example, the United States experienced a US$1 (RM4.55) hike for all its plans.
Other countries that will be affected by the new wave of price increases include the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, and Saudi Arabia.
Last year, Spotify had already raised its pricing for Premium subscriptions in 46 countries.
