PUTRAJAYA: The Rakan Muda Secretariat of the Institution of Higher Education (SRM IPT) are encouraged to hold youth programmes that are inclusive and not limited to students only, says Hannah Yeoh.
The Youth and Sports Minister said the programmes do not necessarily have to be physical, but can also be on digital platforms to ensure a wider reach of the target group.
“Not all youths are at the institutions of higher learning, so when the secretariat holds a programme somewhere, they could also include youths who are living in the surrounding areas,” she told reporters after the presentation of the SRM IPT Fund here Tuesday (July 30).
Yeoh said the ministry has allocated RM1mil for the SRM IPT to carry out Rakan Muda development programmes and activities based on the 10 lifestyles of Rakan Muda.
She said that for the first phase, the ministry has approved 16 applications from the SRM IPT totalling RM280,000, while for the second phase, 59 applications totalling RM1.18mil are being processed.
SRM IPT is a specialised secretariat established in public and private IPT with the aim of implementing programmes and activities that can highlight the potential and form a good character and identity among students. – Bernama
