Incumbent Lukut assemblyman, Choo Ken Hwa, 46, has accused his opponent of engaging in suspicious campaigning activities near a polling centre in Negri Sembilan.
The DAP candidate claimed that he witnessed campaign vehicles featuring the Perikatan Nasional emblem near the polling centre on the morning of Saturday (Aug 12).
Choo has called this incident a clear violation of election rules and has filed a complaint with the returning officer (RO), citing the prohibition of campaign materials, party logos, and promotional paraphernalia on voting day.
After casting his vote at SJKC Chung Hua Lukut, Choo expressed his suspicions regarding potential illicit campaigning activities to the media.
Election Commission officials, upon receiving photographic evidence from Choo, have reassured that they will communicate the matter to the opposing party. The evidence depicts a fleet of vehicles adorned with the likeness of Perikatan candidate Ragu Subramaniam, 50, located near various polling centres. Some of these vehicles were also seen displaying party flags.
An aide to the Perikatan candidate, Azahari Ismail, has responded to the allegations, offering clarification to The Star.
According to Azahari, the vehicles in question did not breach the boundaries of the polling centre. Instead, they were being used to transport party members to vote in nearby locations while maintaining a respectable distance from the actual voting area.
Azahari further stated that the vehicle used by the candidate upon arrival at the polling centre did not bear any campaign materials.
He emphasized that all campaign activities had ceased the previous night in strict adherence to regulations.
Ragu, who is a member of the PAS Non-Muslim Supporters Wing (DHPP), is contesting for the Lukut seat under the Perikatan banner.
