SHAH ALAM: While candidates and political parties are making their final round of campaigning for the Selangor state election before polling day this Saturday (Aug 12), voters are believed to have decided on who or which political party they would vote for.

Mohd Afiq Razali, 33, when met at Padang Jawa, Section 16 here, said he had decided on the candidate he would vote for when going to the polls this Saturday and believed the same of other voters.

A registered voter in Batu Tiga State who will be exercising his right for the third time in this state election, he said, his main criteria for a candidate to be an elected representative is that the individual must have experience, as well as knows about the constituency and its local issues.

“For me, a new young face can also be the choice because as the state constituency closest to Shah Alam City, the Batu Tiga elected representative needs to have fresh ideas to boost existing development,” he told Bernama.

For Mohd Muizzuddin Abdullah, 31, this state election will see him voting for the first time out of his home state.

Having decided to settle down in Shah Alam, he said he had applied to transfer his voter registration to his new address.

“Since I’m not familiar with the candidates, it takes some time for me to decide as I have to know their background first.

“Besides the track record of the candidates, I also look at the political party they represent… the candidates, as well as the party they represent, must have the capability to administer the state and look after the welfare of the people,” he added.

As for government retiree Rosmini Basiron, 55, she had set her mind on the candidate she would vote to be her elected representative since campaigning started.

“The person I’ll vote for must be someone capable of doing the job as an elected representative and is people-spirited,” said the registered voter in Sabak.

Meanwhile, hotel worker Siti Noor Akmal Hatib, 32, said she preferred to have a young candidate be the elected representative in her constituency.

“This is because I want an elected representative who understands the current economic and political trends, as well as looks into the needs of the young people,” she said, adding that she is a registered voter in Sungai Besar.

Trader Ratman Iran, 40, said he hoped incumbent Sekinchan Assemblyman Ng Suee Lim, who is contesting as the PH-BN candidate, would retain the seat in this Aug 12 state election.

“If you ask who my choice is, of course, YB Ng. He is very helpful and takes care of the people who are of various races here,” he added.

However, air conditioning technician, Tan Khit Gee, 38, said he had yet to decide on the candidate to represent the Permatang state constituency where he is residing.

“I haven’t given it a thought. I don’t even know who are the candidates contesting for the seat. What I want is a candidate who can help improve the economy and provide job opportunities,” he said.

Selangor has 3,747,057 registered voters, who will go to the polls this Saturday to vote for 56 state elected representatives out of 147 candidates contesting in the state election being held simultaneously with the state elections in Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negri Sembilan.- Bernama
