PETALING JAYA: Muda, the youth-led political party, has announced its intention to contest in all six states in the upcoming state polls, according to party secretary-general Amir Abdul Hadi. Despite deciding to go solo, Muda remains determined to compete in every state. Amir explained that the final decision on which states to contest will be made by their election committee, with announcements to be made in stages. He further commented that it is difficult to identify specific seats at this point. However, he expressed confidence in the party’s candidates and their commitment to fight for the people’s interests.
When asked if he had any particular seats in mind, Amir stated that the matter is still under discussion with the party’s election committee. Earlier, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman revealed that the party aims to contest fewer than 10% of the available seats in the state elections. This decision comes after Muda’s choice to compete independently in the upcoming polls. Despite concerns about potentially dividing the votes of Pakatan Harapan supporters, Syed Saddiq emphasized that Muda’s decision had nothing to do with failed seat negotiations with Pakatan. He clarified that such negotiations did not exist and that Muda aims to bring a fresh perspective to politics.
According to Syed Saddiq, Muda aspires to be the voice of conscience for the people. He hopes that the electorate will use their votes wisely and send a strong message to those in power. He added, “We urge the people not to take their votes lightly and not to consider this as a secure deposit for any party.”
The state elections are scheduled to take place on August 12 in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan. Early polling will be conducted on August 8, with nomination day set for July 29.
