KLANG: The PKR leadership is set to finalize the list of candidates for the 20 seats that the party will be contesting in Selangor. This process is expected to be completed by the end of this week, according to a PKR insider. Once the list is finalized, the selected candidates will be given their nomination letters the following week.
In the 2018 polls, PKR contested in 21 constituencies in Selangor. However, this time around, they will be contesting in 20 constituencies. The source revealed that the Kota Damansara seat, which was previously held by PKR, will be given to Umno. It remains uncertain whether the Kota Damansara incumbent, Shatiri Mansor, will be repositioned to another constituency or dropped entirely.
There are speculations that Shatiri Mansor may be sent to Bukit Lanjan, as sources suggest that the three-term incumbent, Elizabeth Wong, may not be contesting in the upcoming state polls. The PKR source also emphasized that candidates with strong followings will not be arbitrarily dropped, as it could jeopardize the party’s political positioning in Selangor. Currently, all seats under PKR are being audited to assess the strengths and weaknesses of both the constituencies and the incumbents.
According to the source, this auditing process aligns with the demand made by Selangor PKR Chief, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who emphasizes that all of the party’s candidates must secure victory in the upcoming state polls. On the DAP front, it is expected that all incumbents will be retained, with the exception of one or two. It is believed that the Dusun Tua incumbent, Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof, will be replaced with another Malay candidate from DAP, though it is unclear whether the seat has been conceded to Umno or remains under DAP’s control.
