BUKIT MERTAJAM: Umno Youth gears up for a fierce battle in the upcoming six-state elections, expressing their commitment to collaborate with other youth wings in the unity government. This includes extending support to candidates from parties that Umno is not contesting. Umno Youth chief, Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, highlighted the importance of the party’s election machinery in securing victories for candidates within the unity government. He assured reporters after the Pentas Anak Muda Madani programme on Friday (July 14) that Umno Youth would prioritize specific portfolios and work closely with other youth wings. “We find ourselves in a similar preparatory phase compared to the 15th General Election held only months ago. We’re determined to collaborate with other parties in the Unity Government,” he expressed.
The programme witnessed the presence of PKR youth wing Angkatan Muda Keadilan chief, Adam Adli Abd Alim, and his deputy, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, alongside Dr Muhamad Akmal. The Umno Youth leader emphasized the significance of this event, as it marked the first time Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan stood together, illustrating the unity and commitment of both parties to stand united in the state polls. Although Dr Muhamad Akmal admitted feeling “awkward” sharing the same stage with Pakatan youth wings, he believes that this collaboration will ultimately benefit the people and political parties within the Unity Government.
Dr Muhamad Akmal celebrated the historic moment, acknowledging the unprecedented unity within Barisan and Pakatan youth wings at the national level. The support received from the grassroots level thus far has been encouraging, fueling hopes for a continued display of spirit leading up to the polling day on August 12. For Dr Muhamad Akmal and his team, this collaboration stands as a testament to their dedication to the cause.
