PORT DICKSON: The “green wave” tends to manifest wherever there is a focus on religion and race, says Bagan Pinang candidate for Barisan Nasional, Mohd Najib Mohd Isa.
However, voters prioritise candidates based on their work ethics, said Mohd Najib.
The son of former Negri Sembilan mentri besar, Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, said he believes in the electorate’s discerning judgment, adding that they will vote according to the candidate’s dedication rather than being swayed by fleeting sentiments or transient political currents.
Addressing matters, particularly regarding past corruption cases involving leaders, Mohd Najib dismissed the notion that these concerns will overshadow his coalition’s prospects.
He contends that significant strides have been taken to address corruption through proper channels, assuaging such worries.
“In examining our service delivery and track record, I believe individuals can confidently determine that Barisan is the optimal choice,” he told The Star.
He called on voters to evaluate the options, underlining the value of substance over the surface in the electoral decision-making process.
Mohd Najib’s stepmother Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khaled is contesting the Juasseh state seat.
Mohd Najib said he has a long track record of success with two decades of unwavering commitment to party politics.
“My father has also been in politics all his life. I can’t say that my father only campaigned for me. But he campaigned for everyone. That’s what he did for years,” he said.
“My stepmother, too, is no stranger to the ranks of Umno, having previously held the position of the inaugural chief of Negri Sembilan Puteri Umno.
“She also served as the Paroi assemblyman from 2004 to 2008. After reprieve, she has rekindled her active presence in politics. While I am contesting Bagan Pinang, she is in Juasseh – truly disparate domains,” he added.
Mohd Najib stressed the importance of engaging young voters and addressing their desires.
He wants to organise night-time football matches and highlights the need for more space in the Bagan Pinang area should he get elected.
“The youth have passion for sports and their aspirations for better job prospects and overall prosperity. I believe a strong partnership between federal and state governments can enhance welfare at all levels,” he said.
Mohd Najib outlines his priorities if he is elected, including enhancing tourism.
“Bagan Pinang’s status as a prominent tourism hub will be further solidified through initiatives like transforming Kemang Square into a vibrant centre of arts and culture.
“This dedicated space promises to captivate tourists and locals, providing a glimpse into the region’s rich cultural heritage.”
He said the Negri Sembilan unity government, which seeks to promote Port Dickson as a hub for military tourism, reflects a commitment to innovative and strategic development.
By bridging the aspirations of the youth with the broader goals of the community, Mohd Najib aims to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for Bagan Pinang.
Mohd Najib has a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom 2001. His political journey started when he joined the Umno Youth division in Teluk Kemang in 2002.
Mohd Najib said united endeavours could propel Negri Sembilan into a more prosperous and promising tomorrow.
He will face Abdul Fatah Zakaria, a 57-year-old candidate from the Perikatan Nasional, in the state polls.
In the Bagan Pinang state constituency, Malay voters make up 75.4%, Chinese (6.8%), Indians (10%), and others, 7.7%.
