The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has stated that it will take strong action against individuals or organizations that impose conditions on the sale of controlled goods, such as packet cooking oil and sugar. Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh announced that the ministry has received a total of 71 complaints nationwide regarding conditional sales since the beginning of this year.

According to Salleh, “Any individual found guilty under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 can face a fine of up to RM1 million, a prison term of up to three years, or both. Corporations can be fined up to RM2 million, and for subsequent offenses, a fine of not more than RM5 million.” A press conference was held to discuss this issue after the launch of the Perak-level Mobile Rahmah Sales program on Sunday, September 3rd.

The ministry has taken action in 17 cases so far, and six cases are currently under investigation. Additionally, Salleh revealed that the ministry is in the process of developing a mechanism for the phased implementation of targeted subsidized cooking oil starting from next year. The eligibility criteria for households that will receive this subsidy, such as the B40 or M40 groups, as well as micro industries, are currently being decided.

“We are making a decision regarding the households that are eligible to receive this targeted subsidy whether they are B40 or M40 groups as well as the micro industries,” she added. – Bernama
