Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has called on the government to swiftly address the water crisis at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and to minimize bureaucratic red tape.
The Sabah Umno chief emphasized the need for proactive measures and expressed concern for the students affected by the situation.
He emphasized that lack of funding should not be an issue, pointing out that the Prime Minister had allocated RM3mil to address the problem last year, and an additional RM2mil was recently provided by the Higher Education Ministry.
As a result, Bung stressed the importance of immediate action to resolve the crisis, as the necessary funds have already been allocated.
He urged for less bureaucracy and more efficient work to be done in addressing the issue.
Bung called for collaboration between all relevant parties, including the federal and state governments, the Sabah Water Department, and UMS, rather than the blame game.
He pointed out that the students at UMS are in need of practical solutions rather than empty promises, expressing that their daily lives on campus have been severely impacted by the crisis.
Bung proposed that the state allocate additional funding to support the resolution of the matter and to regularly supply water tanks to the campus.
He highlighted that many students have had to resort to purchasing bottled water for their daily needs due to the prolonged water crisis.
