MUAR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Opposition to refrain from using racial rhetoric to frighten people, especially Malays. The Prime Minister emphasized that the position of Malay leadership, Islam as the religion of the federation, the sovereignty of the royal institution, and Bahasa Melayu as the nation’s official language are unquestionable. He further stated that members of DAP, MCA, MIC, and non-Malays in PKR have always upheld the principles of the Federal Constitution and highlighted his disinterest in becoming prime minister if these principles were challenged.
Anwar urged the Opposition to avoid instilling fear among Malays using such issues, as they have long been accustomed to empty promises and slogans. He questioned the lack of progress on the promises made to Malays during the three years of government leadership under Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and PAS. He criticized their failure to strengthen the Malay language, uphold the status of Islam, and combat corruption and robbery.
During the Simpang Jeram state seat Madani Unity mega ceramah in Taman Desa, Sungai Abong, Anwar highlighted that the majority of Malays benefited from the decision to write off Felda settlers’ bad debts amounting to RM8.3bil, as well as the RM3bil allocation for infrastructure upgrades and double padi planting seasons every two years in Kedah.
Anwar pointed out that these matters were discussed in the Cabinet meeting, and none of the representatives from DAP, Umno, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah opposed them. He emphasized that there was no need to insult other races, as Malaysia is a country with enough for everyone.
Reiterating the Unity Government’s commitment to serve all Malaysians, including Malays, Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli, Dusun, and Kadazan, Anwar invited Pakatan Harapan’s Simpang Jeram candidate Nazri Abdul Rahman on stage and encouraged voters to support him as their assemblyman.
After the ceramah, the Prime Minister proceeded to another event in Tampoi, Johor Baru, within the Pulai parliamentary constituency. The Simpang Jeram state seat by-election sees Nazri, Bakri Amanah division deputy chief, contesting against Perikatan Nasional’s Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan. Polling day is scheduled for Sept 9.
