In the Netherlands, storm Ciaran caused damage and resulted in the death of at least one person due to fallen trees. Local media reported that in the small town of Venray, located in the Dutch province of Limburg, one individual lost their life as a consequence of a fallen tree. Furthermore, multiple individuals sustained injuries from similar incidents caused by the storm.
The country experienced the cancellation of several hundred flights and the closure of various large terminals at the port of Rotterdam. Shipping on the canals has also been halted.
The Dutch weather institute KNMI has issued a code orange warning specifically for the coastal province of Zeeland. This warning is also applicable to the coastal regions of South Holland and North Holland.
The code orange designation signifies the second highest level of warning from the KNMI. This level indicates a possibility of heavy gusts of wind reaching speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour, as well as a high risk of accidents caused by toppled trees and fallen branches.
