KOTA KINABALU: The search for a teenager who fell from a suspension bridge near here is being hindered by numerous challenges, according to Tuaran Fire Station chief Mohd Abd Qawie Abdul Gapar. As the search operation enters its second day on Sunday (July 9), rescuers are facing higher tides and stronger currents.
Abd Qawie explained that the water level of the river has risen and the currents have intensified compared to the previous day. In order to locate the missing boy, rescuers are hoping for a swift resolution.
The incident occurred on Saturday at around 2.30pm when Mohd Hisham Iskandar Azli, 13, fell into the river at Kg Telibung in Tuaran while taking selfies with his friends on the bridge. According to eyewitnesses, Hisham slipped and two of his friends attempted to rescue him by jumping into the river. However, their efforts were unsuccessful due to the strong currents.
