The man suspected of setting fire to the home of Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham has tested negative for drugs, according to Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri confirmed that the screening was conducted after the man’s arrest on Friday (Jan 12).

The suspect was taken into custody in the Shah Alam area of Selangor around 4am and has been remanded until Tuesday, Mohd Yusri said.

In addition to the drug test, police also confiscated two mobile phones from the suspect and determined that he did not have a criminal record.

On Saturday (Jan 13), Mohd Yusri revealed that the man, who is in his 30s, is not affiliated with any political party and that the police are still investigating his motive.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday (Jan 10), saw three cars parked in Ngeh’s Ayer Tawar house’s porch damaged after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the compound.
