The Taman Medan assemblyman, Dr. Afif Bahardin, has been given the title of member of Bersatu’s supreme council by the party’s president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as stated by Dr. Afif on Thursday (Feb 1). He mentioned that his main focus would be on the welfare of the people while helping to ensure the party’s direction in its battle.

Dr. Afif stated, “I will help develop policies that secure the future of the country’s youth. Bersatu, as part of Perikatan Nasional, will continue to represent and fight for bumiputras and Malaysians as a whole, regardless of race and religion.”
He also stated that with these objectives, he aims to connect with young professionals and undergraduates, explaining the party’s principles and introducing them to the young leaders in Bersatu.

Furthermore, Dr. Afif criticized Labuan MP Datuk Dr. Suhaili Abdul Rahman for challenging the party to dismiss him after he declared support for the unity government.
“(The party instead challenges) Dr. Suhaili to vacate the seat as we have many more capable leaders to represent and take care of the people of Labuan, despite pressure and intimidation from the administration,” he said.

All six elected representatives in the mentioned seats have pledged their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.
Dr. Afif, who switched from PKR to Bersatu in 2020, was one of four Penang assemblymen removed in March last year under the state’s anti-hopping law after a lengthy court battle. He was then appointed in the Selangor state elections in August.
