PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei will take on South Korea’s world No. 8 Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics.
In the draw released on Monday (July 29), Olympic debutants Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who finished top of Group D, have been placed in the bottom half of the draw and will face the tricky Koreans for a place in the last four on Wednesday (July 31).
If the world No. 9 duo manage to beat Won-ho-Na-eun, they will play either the latter’s teammates and reigning world champions Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yu-jung or Hong Kong’s world No. 7 Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet in the semi-finals.
Based on the head-to-head records, Tang Jie-Ee Wei hold a slight advantage over Won-ho-Na-eun as they have defeated the pair twice in their past three meetings.
Both their wins came in their last two encounters in the Asian Championships and China Open last year while Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s sole defeat to the Koreans was in the German Open also in 2023.
Meanwhile, in the other quarter-finals match-ups, China’s world No. 1 Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong will take on teammates and world No. 2 Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping while Japan’s world No. 5 Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino will meet Thailand’s 2021 world champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai.
The winners of both matches will face each other for a place in the final.
