On November 24th, the Tanzanian health authorities introduced a new initiative to enhance the fight against HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and hepatitis.
The launch of the National AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections and Hepatitis Control Program (NASHCOP) took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s main commercial center.
Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu stressed the significance of addressing HIV/AIDS in conjunction with STIs and hepatitis, as these interconnected infections can worsen the transmission of HIV.
“NASHCOP has now replaced the National AIDS Control Program in order to give it more strength,” she stated.
Mwalimu also highlighted the program’s objectives, which include fortifying preventive and curative services for HIV/AIDS, STIs and hepatitis.
