According to Tanzanian authorities, the nation’s plan to bring electricity to all 12,318 villages across the country will be finished by June 2024. Originally set to be completed in 2025, the rural electrification program will supply over 70 percent of the rural population with electricity, a move that is anticipated to boost economic activities. This was declared by Johnes Olotu, the acting director of the Rural Energy Agency, during a news conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial hub.

Notably, this project has been in progress for thirty years, and Olotu further shared that 73 percent of the implementation has already been achieved. The government is funding this ambitious project, which is estimated to cost 1.58 trillion Tanzanian shillings (equivalent to around 630 million U.S. dollars) in partnership with the World Bank.
