DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) — The Tanzanian Vice President Philip Mpango has emphasized the importance of tackling challenges related to job creation in African countries, calling for inclusive, transformative, and integrated approaches to address these issues.
During the 7th African Social Partners Service Summit in Dar es Salaam, Mpango highlighted that employment creation and strategies that promote inclusive growth and development are now key priorities for all African governments.
He stated that the African Social Partners Service Summits have provided valuable insights and guidelines to foster employment opportunities across the continent.
Mpango acknowledged that Africa’s employment challenges have been exacerbated by various factors such as the global climate crisis, the devastating impacts of conflicts, geopolitical tensions, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He stressed the urgency of fostering collaboration among all stakeholders, emphasizing the need for a platform that transcends sectoral boundaries and unites government agencies, domestic partners, and external allies, including the private sector.
Mpango also mentioned that Africa’s labor market is characterized by the presence of a large informal sector, the dominance of the agriculture sector in the economy, low production and productivity, as well as persistent youth unemployment.
