On February 21st, President Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar, Tanzania, stated that his administration is working to enhance tourism in Zanzibar. He made these comments during the opening of the second edition of the Z-Summit, Zanzibar Tourism and Opportunities 2024. The event serves as a crucial platform for industry leaders to interact with local, East African, and international travel influencers and entrepreneurs.
Mwinyi emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to improving the infrastructure and regulatory frameworks that support the tourism sector in Zanzibar. Additionally, he highlighted initiatives aimed at upgrading transportation networks, increasing energy efficiency, and conserving cultural and environmental resources, all of which are part of Zanzibar’s long-term plan for sustainable tourism development.
Furthermore, Mwinyi announced investments in the construction of new roads, enhancements to the electricity supply, advancements in waste management, and the ambitious project of constructing a new airport in Pemba. These initiatives are designed to enhance accessibility, connectivity, and the overall visitor experience in Zanzibar. The President also indicated that efforts are underway to safeguard heritage sites in the region.
