Health officials in Sabah are looking into an allegation of negligence by Tawau Hospital by a man whose wife recently gave birth.
The man took to social media to claim that his wife experienced abdominal pain after her C-section at the hospital due to alleged negligence by the medical staff.
Sabah health director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna confirmed that the woman underwent successful surgery to re-attach the stitches on her womb and is currently in stable condition and under close observation in the intensive care unit (ICU).
A team has been formed to investigate and the Sabah Health Department plans to conduct a detailed and transparent probe into the matter.
Dr Asits also stated that the department takes all complaints seriously and strives to improve its services based on investigations.
According to patient records at Tawau Hospital, the 34-year-old woman checked into the hospital at 31 weeks pregnant with her twins and was admitted for an emergency C-section due to risk factors.
Following the surgery, she and her twins were observed in the hospital and later discharged in stable condition.
However, she returned to the hospital with a fever and abdominal pain a few days later and had to undergo another procedure.
During the second surgery, an infection was discovered in the womb which resulted in the stitches coming off and an infection in the abdomen cavity.
