A 16-year-old boy’s body was found 15 hours after he was reported missing following a swim with friends in Batu Sapi, Sandakan on Saturday (Dec 30).
The body of Mohd Amiruddin Juhardin was discovered by villagers at a beachside in Batu Sapi at 8am on Saturday (Dec 30).
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman confirmed that the body was found 30m from where the boy was last seen near a jetty on the beach the previous day. He also stated that the victim was confirmed to have died before the body was handed over to the police for further action. The operation ended at 8.30am, according to the spokesman.
Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek previously stated that the teenager had disappeared after taking a dip with three friends at the beach behind Kilang Sinora at around 4.30pm on Friday (Dec 29). They were diving from the jetty into the sea when the boy suddenly screamed for help while swimming and his friends attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful, as per ACP Abdul Fuad.
