PONTIAN: An 18-year-old teenager was killed while another was injured after their motorcycle collided with a vehicle at KM66.4 Jalan Johor Baru-Batu Pahat, here.

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the incident occurred on Friday (Sept 20) at 9.15pm when a vehicle, driven by a 63-year-old man, was trying to make a right turn at the intersection.

“The driver was from Benut heading towards Pontian; upon arriving at the location, the driver had tried to make a right turn.

“At the same time, a motorcycle ridden by a 17-year-old male teenager together with an 18-year-old male pillion rider, had come from the opposite direction.

“The rider failed to evade the car and crashed into its left side door; the pillion rider was flung into the vehicle,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (Sept 22).

Tragically, both motorcycle riders did not wear helmets, Supt Mohammad Shofee said.

He added that the pillion rider suffered a serious injury on the head and was pronounced dead at the location, while the rider is currently being treated at the Pontian Hospital after suffering serious injuries.

“The driver of the vehicle was unharmed,” he added.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a 22-year-old foreign man was killed after being run over by an unknown vehicle at KM21 Jalan Jemaluang-Mersing.

Mersing Deputy OCPD DSP Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said that the police received a report regarding the matter on Saturday (Sept 21) at 9.30am.

“This is a hit-and-run case, and our initial investigation revealed that the victim had just left his home and was walking at the roadside heading to work.
