Authorities in Alor Gajah have taken action against a teenager who, along with two others, scammed his mother out of RM25,000. Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu announced that the 15-year-old and his two accomplices will face charges at the Magistrate’s Court on January 19.
Supt Arshad explained that the Form Three student collaborated with his 29-year-old and 17-year-old friends to carry out the elaborate scheme. They told the victim, who is a clinic assistant, that her son had been detained by police in Seremban on November 27, and that she needed to pay for his release.
The mother handed over the money to the 29-year-old, who was pretending to be a police officer, at Masjid Tanah. Her son returned home on November 30 after the payment was made. Suspicious of the situation, the mother contacted Seremban police and discovered that no arrest had been made. She promptly filed a police report.
After conducting an investigation, authorities found evidence that the three individuals were working together to carry out the scam. The 17-year-old suspect is a classmate of the victim’s son. The trio is expected to be charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which pertains to cheating.
