PETALING JAYA: In mid-July this year, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced the Rahmah Student Prepaid Package, a mobile plan meant for Malaysian youths currently undergoing tertiary education.
The prepaid plan, which offers 30GB of data with 180-day validity, was launched on Aug 16 and is offered by the following telecommunications providers: CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile, and YTL Communications (Yes).
Eligibility for the Rahmah Student Prepaid Package varies between telcos, with CelcomDigi stating that it is available to youths aged 25 years old and under, while Yes’ age requirements are set to 24 and below.
Users should make sure to check the terms and conditions for their telco provider beforehand.
Those eligible can subscribe to the plan via any of the listed telcos’ mobile apps. Below is a step-by-step guide to doing so with each telco.
CelcomDigi
CelcomDigi customers can subscribe to the plan via either the Celcom Life or MyDigi app depending on their service provider. Subscribers will receive 30GB of data without speed caps.
To subscribe to the Student Rahmah Plan, start by logging in to either the Celcom Life app or the MyDigi app.
Once logged in, navigate to the “Add-Ons” section (Buy Add-Ons in MyDigi) and select “Internet”. Then, choose the relevant option, “One Time Pass” in Celcom Life or “On Demand” in MyDigi.
From there, just select “Pakej Rahmah Siswa” to complete the purchase transaction.
Do keep in mind that CelcomDIgi’s offering is limited to those on either the Edisi Biru or Edisi Kuning prepaid plans.
Maxis (via Hotlink)
Maxis on the other hand is offering the package via Hotlink, similarly providing 30GB of data, though with speeds capped at 3Mbps (megabits per second).
To get the plan, navigate to the “Internet” tab in the Hotlink app, select “Others”, and choose the “Pakej RAHMAH Siswa” option. After that, tap “Buy Now” to complete the purchase.
U Mobile
Those on U Mobile can subscribe to the package with uncapped speeds in the MyUMobile app, though they will need to be on the telco’s 5G-Ready Prepaid Rate Plan to do so.
The telco says that customers on older prepaid rate plans will need to upgrade to the new one with a one-time RM5 fee through the app as well.
To subscribe to the Rahmah Student Prepaid Package in MyUMobile, users should go to the “Add-Ons” menu and select “Others”. From there, choose the listed “Pakej Rahmah” option and confirm the purchase.
TM (via Unifi Mobile)
Unifi Mobile also offers uncapped speeds on its Rahmah Student Prepaid Package. Subscriptions can be made via the Unifi Mobile app by tapping on the “Buy Now” button and selecting “Pakej Rahmah Siswa” in the “Pakej Khas” tab before completing the purchase.
Yes
The offerings from Yes include the base 30GB of data accompanied by an additional 30GB bonus, though with speeds capped at up to 7Mbps.
Customers can apply for the Rahmah Student Prepaid Package in the MyYes app, and also via the Yes Online Store and Yes Authorised Dealers.
To subscribe through the telco’s online store, simply tap the “Buy Now” button on the plan’s store page, provide a valid university email address, and proceed to payment.
