In Malaga, Spain, Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia defeated Jack Draper of Britain in a Davis Cup quarter-final match on Thursday, giving his team a 1-0 lead in the competition. The match was a hard-hitting baseline duel, with no break points against Kecmanovic in his 7-6(2) 7-6(6) victory over his 22-year-old opponent who is ranked 55th in the world.
The next match will see Novak Djokovic of Serbia facing off against Cameron Norrie of Britain, with the opportunity to secure Serbia’s spot in the semi-finals against Italy.
If Norrie manages to pull off an upset and win against Djokovic, the final result will be decided by a doubles match.
Kecmanovic, chosen over the higher-ranked Laslo Djere, proved to be a solid choice for Serbia’s team captain Viktor Troicki, as he delivered a strong performance that was too much for Draper to handle.
Prior to this match, Italy had already secured their spot in the last four by defeating the Netherlands with a 2-1 victory.
