In Indian Wells, California, Andy Murray reiterated his plans to retire from tennis this summer despite frustration at being repeatedly questioned about it. The 36-year-old British player has stated that he will not continue playing after this summer, but the exact timing of his retirement, whether it’s after Wimbledon, the Paris Olympics, or the U.S. Open, remains uncertain.

Expressing exasperation with the constant inquiries, Murray told reporters, “I feel like no one is listening to me. I’m planning on finishing in the summer. I don’t know what more I’m supposed to say. I’ve been getting asked about it for 18 months or so, and it’s obviously something I have thought about, but, you know, I hadn’t made a decision on.”

Recent months have seen Murray struggle for victories, with early exits in the Australian Open and subsequent tournaments. However, he managed to reach the second round of the Qatar Open and Dubai Championships, where he defeated Denis Shapovalov. Despite a strong start against David Goffin in Indian Wells, he was ultimately overwhelmed by Andrey Rublev’s power in the second set.

As the only man to win two Olympic singles titles, Murray has expressed interest in competing at the Paris Games, though securing qualification as the current world number 61 is not guaranteed. Suggestions have been made that Wimbledon, where he has triumphed in two of his three Grand Slam victories, would be a fitting place for him to conclude his career.

Regardless of the timing, Murray emphasized that he will depart the sport content. Reflecting on his career, he stated, “I’m sure all the players when they finish playing look back and probably wish there are things they would have done differently or could have done better. But I feel like I gave it a pretty good go. I worked hard, I put a lot into it. I didn’t miss many days of training through lack of discipline or poor decisions. Yeah, I gave it a good go.”
