(Reuters) – Holger Rune has decided to rejoin forces with his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou following the termination of his partnership with Boris Becker and Severin Luthi after a disappointing Australian Open campaign last month.
In October, Rune hired German legend Becker, and then added Roger Federer’s former mentor Luthi to his team ahead of the 2024 season. However, both coaches left after the 20-year-old Dane suffered a defeat to French wild card Arthur Cazaux in the second round at Melbourne Park.
Rune, who is currently ranked number seven in the world, has previously worked with Mouratoglou and achieved success under his guidance when he won the 2022 Paris Masters title by defeating world number one Novak Djokovic in the final.
Confirming Mouratoglou’s return to his team, Rune said on social media site X, formerly Twitter, “Sometimes you must try a variety of things to find out what works for you and what does not. In the recent months I have learned a lot about what’s important for me. With Patrick, I did some of my greatest triumphs and I believe he can help me achieving my goals.”
Expressing his excitement about rejoining Rune’s team, Mouratoglou mentioned, “We have known each other since he was 13-years-old and I always believed in his potential. He has high goals and so do I for him.”
He added, “It’s the start of a new adventure. See you guys in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami.”
