(Reuters) – Stefanos Tsitsipas has made a generous commitment to support the recovery efforts in Acapulco after the destructive Hurricane Otis hit the city last October. The Greek tennis player has announced that he will donate $1000 for every ace he scores during the Mexican Open tournament.
Hurricane Otis caused widespread devastation in Acapulco, resulting in tragic loss of life and extensive damage to infrastructure. The storm, considered the most powerful to strike Mexico’s Pacific coast, led to the destruction or severe damage of over 130,000 homes.
In a video shared on the tournament’s social media platforms, Tsitsipas affirmed his pledge, stating, “I’m going to donate a thousand dollars for every ace I make this week.” He expressed his intention to contribute the accumulated funds to programs dedicated to assisting Acapulco in its recovery.
The Mexican Open, scheduled from February 26 to March 2, will witness the participation of top players such as Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, and Frances Tiafoe.
