During the Northeast Monsoon season, Kuala Nerus, Terengganu’s first district, was hit by floods, leading to the opening of a temporary relief centre at the Tok Jembal Multipurpose Hall on Monday (Nov 20) morning, according to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat.
As of Monday, 124 people from 54 families had been relocated to the centre, with the expectation of the number of victims increasing as it continued to rain. More centres are likely to be opened as the situation develops.
On the education front, Terengganu State Education Department deputy director Azman Othman reported that three schools in Kuala Terengganu had been affected by the floods: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Budiman, SK Losong, and SK Tok Dir. As a result, students were informed not to attend school, but teachers and students are expected to engage in home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) as usual.
According to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s Public Infobanjir website, the main ditch in Padang Kemunting in Kuala Nerus had surpassed the 3.6-metre warning level, with a reading of 3.7m. As such, the situation was being closely monitored. – Bernama
