In Bangkok, Thailand, the opposition leader and former prime ministerial candidate expressed concerns about the future of his Move Forward Party on Tuesday. Pita Limjaroenrat stated that the party will do everything it can to protect itself amidst legal threats that could result in its dissolution and the banning of its leaders from politics.
He emphasized that the Move Forward Party, known for its pro-reform stance, could play a crucial role in fostering a new political consensus in the country. Despite winning an election last May on an anti-establishment platform, the party was unable to form a government.
“Instead of viewing us as adversaries of the parliament, consider us a bridge for constructive dialogue,” Pita told Reuters in an interview.
The party faces potential dissolution and leadership bans following a ruling by the Constitutional Court, which deemed their proposal to amend a law related to insulting the monarchy as a threat to the crown. This decision has opened the door for legal action against the party.
