Perikatan Nasional and PAS should carefully choose candidates, according to Sallehen Mukhyi.
During a debate on PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s policy speech at the 69th muktamar, the Selangor PAS delegate emphasized the importance of discussing potential candidates well in advance of the elections.
“We need to establish a team to assess the level of support for each constituency.
“For example, in the parliamentary and state assembly seats that we have not yet won, we should establish guidelines and standards.
“We don’t want to field candidates who lack support. The decision needs to be scrutinized as some potential candidates may only meet with the leaders and become candidates,” he explained.
Sallehen suggested that the coalition issue a guideline or standard to ensure fairness when selecting candidates from respective parties.
“Based on one parliament and one state assembly seat, the leaders can evaluate and determine the most eligible candidate, which can then form the basis for our decision-making process.
“This evaluation and formulation need to take place now. If a candidate fails to meet the standards, whether they are from Bersatu or PAS, they cannot be fielded in that particular constituency,” he added.
