    Thief fails to steal jewellery worth RM23,000, gets beaten up on street

    A man of 27 years old was apprehended by passers-by on the street after attempting to steal necklaces from a jewellery store in Kota Tinggi. The incident took place at 6pm on Monday (Oct 16), according to Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora. The suspect feigned interest in purchasing two necklaces worth RM23,000 before making his escape. However, he was quickly caught by members of the public near a nearby supermarket.

    After the incident, the stolen jewellery was returned to the owner of the store, and the suspect was handed over to the police. The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which deals with theft. The Kota Tinggi Magistrate’s Court sentenced the suspect to six months in jail on Tuesday (Oct 17).

    A video was posted on X earlier, depicting a man being held in the street and beaten up for his attempted crime.
