This new tool tells you the right time to book to get the lowest airfares online

Travellers who use Google Flights to book their flights online will soon have access to a new feature that helps them determine the best time to book. The feature uses data collected over the years to provide users with information on when fares are usually lowest for a specific destination. This way, users can decide whether to book immediately or wait for potentially lower fares.

For example, if the data suggests that the cheapest time to book a flight is usually between September 13 and December 7, Google Flights will display this message in the search results. However, the feature will only work for searches for which sufficient and reliable data is available.

In addition to this new feature, Google Flights already offers other tools to help users find the best prices. Users can see whether the current prices for a flight search are low, typical, or high compared to the average. The service also provides price tracking, which sends notifications to users when flight fares significantly drop for selected dates or flexible dates based on their preferences.

Now, certain flight results will also display a colored “price guarantee” badge, indicating that the fare shown will not decrease further until the day of departure. This means that if users book a flight with this badge, Google will refund the difference via Google Pay if the price later drops. However, this feature is currently only available for flights departing from the United States.

In general, it is recommended to choose routes with stopovers and avoid weekend departures in order to save money on long-haul flights.
