Thousands gathered at Setia SPICE Arena for Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s Chinese New Year open house in George Town.
Families and friends of various races came together to celebrate the festive occasion.
Some arrived as early as 1pm on Sunday (Feb 11) for the event, which took place from 2pm to 4pm.
Human Resource Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong and Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying were among the main guests at the open house.
Politicians and state leaders also attended the event to welcome the Year of the Dragon.
The Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife arrived at about 2.30pm and were greeted by Chow and other state leaders.
Ahmad Fuzi and his wife participated in the “yee sang” tossing ceremony with Chow and state leaders to signify a prosperous new year.
Guests, including tourists, enjoyed a variety of local dishes such as char kuey teow, mee goreng, satay, and fried rice.
Visitors were also entertained by cultural performances, lion and dragon dances, and performances by local artists.
