SEPANG: Three Chinese nationals were apprehended by police following a theft at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

KLIA OCPD Asst Comm Azman Shariat said that a Japanese man lodged a report on Oct 22 after discovering that his wallet was missing the previous day while attempting to make a payment in Petaling Jaya.

“He suspected that his bag had been opened and the wallet stolen while still within Terminal 1, as he noticed the bag zipper was unzipped. He also received notifications on his phone regarding three unauthorised transactions,” he explained.

“This prompted him to halt all of his bank cards. The estimated loss from these transactions is around RM7,622,” he added.

Following an investigation into the theft, police arrested the three Chinese nationals on Oct 25 in Terminal 1.

Azman confirmed that the police are continuing their investigation to determine if the suspects are linked to other pickpocketing incidents.

“They will be charged at the Sepang courthouse on Wednesday (Oct 30),” he said.
