KUALA LUMPUR: Three individuals, one of whom is a Vietnamese woman, have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in smuggling alcoholic beverages worth RM1.5 million. According to Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Hakim Jamaluddin, the 44-year-old woman was arrested after a raid at a location on Jalan Sungai Besi at approximately 2pm on Friday, September 29th. “We have also confiscated 107 boxes and 116 cartons of alcoholic beverages from various brands,” he stated during a press conference held on Sunday, October 1st at the Cheras police headquarters.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two men, a 29-year-old local and a 31-year-old foreigner, at a nearby location on the same Friday, Asst Comm Zam Hakim revealed. He added, “We have seized 1,818 cartons of alcoholic beverages, two mobile phones, and a lorry that was used for transporting the smuggled drinks.” These two raided premises were being utilized as storage facilities for the contraband items, he mentioned. “We suspect that this group has been operating for over a year, and their illegal activities involve smuggling the alcoholic beverages through ports and hidden passages,” he stated. All three suspects are currently under remand.”
