Tourists planning to visit Thailand are advised to make sure they have approximately RM1,992 in cash with them due to a new travel requirement.
Dewi Lestari, the Minister Counsellor of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, explained in an interview with the Indonesian network RRI that this new regulation applies to all foreign tourists entering Thailand, regardless of where they are from. The minimum cash amount that tourists must have on hand is THB15,000 or around RM1,992.
During the interview, Lestari mentioned that the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok has received complaints from Indonesian travelers who were unable to enter Thailand. The embassy decided to release a reminder about the new financial requirement due to these incidents.
The embassy highlighted that visitors must also show an active passport with at least six months of validity, evidence of a return ticket, and proof of accommodation. Additionally, tourists are required to demonstrate their financial capability during their stay in Thailand by bringing adequate cash into the country.
Lestari noted that the Thailand Immigration did not specify the exact amount of money visitors must bring, but based on information from open sources, at least 15,000-20,000 baht per person is recommended. Failure to comply with this requirement would be considered a violation of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979), and immigration officers have the authority to prevent tourists from entering Thailand.
This regulation applies to tourists worldwide but will not necessarily be enforced in every case. Immigration officers may conduct random checks, so tourists are encouraged to adhere to the policy to ensure entry into Thailand.
