KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry plans to summon representatives from the ridesharing company Grab to provide an explanation for the decrease in payment rates for delivery riders.

The minister, Anthony Loke, stated that discussions will be conducted with relevant ministries regarding this matter.

Loke told reporters in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Feb 17), “We will study the memorandum and discuss it with the related ministries. Grab representatives will be called up to explain.”

This move comes after a group of delivery riders submitted a memorandum to the Transport Ministry on Friday (Feb 16) to request Putrajaya’s intervention in response to decreasing payment rates.

The memorandum was received by the ministry’s deputy secretary-general (Management), Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid, from the group’s representative, Mohd Adie Ali.

Mohd Adie stated that riders are seeking for Grab to revert to the previous rate of RM5 per delivery, as they are dissatisfied with the new rates of RM4 to RM4.50.

The riders also urged for improvements to the reimbursement mechanism for cancelled deliveries.
