The Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim is capable of leading the state’s development in line with the aspirations of his father, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, to transform Johor into a developed state by 2030, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. He emphasized the Regent’s focus on education and ability in driving the government to form Bangsa Johor united with good quality education and dedication to serve the land.
Onn Hafiz Ghazi expressed confidence that Tunku Mahkota Ismail’s vision and aspirations are aligned with his father’s, as he was appointed as Regent of Johor after Sultan Ibrahim will ascend the federal throne as the 17th King of Malaysia on Jan 31, replacing Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Tunku Mahkota Ismail, known for his leadership qualities, has demonstrated these in various initiatives such as his football club, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), which has been champions for 10 consecutive years. The Mentri Besar also highlighted the establishment of the Southern Volunteers (SV) team, reflecting the Regent’s focus on engaging the youth in serving the state, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The SV contributed to raising the vaccination rate of Bangsa Johor, as well as Tunku Mahkota Ismail’s efforts to develop youth activity centres through the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC). He plans to build these centres in all 10 districts of the state over five years, starting in 2022, to promote a healthy lifestyle for the youth and young adults.
Tunku Mahkota Ismail, 39, was born on June 30, 1984, in Johor Bahru. He is married to Her Highness Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda, and they have been blessed with four children: Tunku Khalsom Aminah Sofiah, Tunku Iskandar Abdul Jalil Abu Bakar Ibrahim, Tunku Abu Bakar Ibrahim, and Tunku Zahrah Zarith Aziyah.
