Istanbul (Reuters) – A Turkish cargo ship with 12 crew members on board has disappeared off the coast of the Black Sea in Turkey due to a storm. Local authorities have been unable to establish contact with the ship since the incident.
The captain of the Turkish flagged Kafkametler reported that the ship was drifting towards a breakwater off Eregli, in Zonguldak province, as a result of the storm. This information was provided by the provincial governor’s office.
The region was struck by intense storms on Sunday, and the adverse weather conditions made it impossible for air and sea vessels to conduct searches for the missing ship.
Despite the challenging weather, search and rescue teams were deployed in the area and were prepared to commence operations as soon as the weather permitted, the governor’s office stated.
